IITA is looking for a suitably qualified person to fill the position Cassava Seed Systems Mainstreaming Officer for their project on Building an Economically Sustainable Seed Systems of Cassava in Tanzania (BEST Cassava). He or She will work directly under the management of the Head of Advocacy and Resource Mobilization and collaborate with the project implementing agencies and the partners.

Duty Station: The position will be based at the IITA Regional Hub for Eastern Africa in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, but with extensive engagement with the national roots tuber crops research partners.
Job requirements:
• The candidate should have a MSc. in agricultural science or related field with emphasis to roots and tuber crops production
• At least six years' experience in the roots and tuber crops seed systems
• Excellent written and oral communications skills and the ability to communicate with a broad and diverse audience.
• Ability to prioritize, focus and achieve results in a fast paced and complex environment.
• Flexibility to work across the IITA programs to solve shared problems, and identify and develop potential synergies.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.
• Deep knowledge of cassava or any other related roots! tuber crops; cross-cultural knowledge; donor knowledge; government protocol; socio-political knowledge of relevant geographies and governments.
• Demonstrated management; leadership skills and experience in the relevant geographical region.
• Solely, or (in) directly negotiate, advocate and mobilize resources for scaling up commercialized cassava seed systems approach in Tanzania
• Work with the communication specialists to develop various awareness materials on the commercialized cassava seed systems and disseminate to policy decision makers at national, regional and district levels respectively in and outside project areas
• At project level, develop collaborative strategies, influence investment priorities at local and central government levels, and mobilize resources for expanding the activities beyond the target districts.
• Provide technical assistance to key actors especially the NARS in the roots and tuber crops seed systems contributing to the development of new proposals, joint resource mobilization and project program implementation to ensure long-term sustainability and impact.
• Train selected individuals from extension offices, active NGOs and progressive farmers, all referred to as "cassava seed systems champions" in advocacy and communication
• Build capacities of the national partners to implement the program beyond the project life
• Utilizing an understanding of IITA's competencies and technologies, knowledge of funding opportunities and various other types of donor intelligence to facilitate the development of successful responses to funding opportunities of cassava seed systems and beyond.
• Communicate regional and district priorities to the project implementers to ensure internal alignment with local an central government's strategy goals
• Assist the project manager in the daily management of th, project which includes : organizing team meetings am reporting etc ..
General information:
The initial contract for the position is two years with possibility of renewal. This is a nationally recruited position and IITA offers a competitive remuneration package.
